Summary
The Environmental Working Group and the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics are trying to scare women about trace levels of lead detected in lipstick.
Faulty Science
- Lead is ubiquitous in the environment, so trace levels of lead can be detected in/on most everything.
- There is no scientific evidence indicating that low levels of exposure to lead have ever harmed anyone.
- There is no scientific evidence indicating that lead in lipstick has ever harmed anyone.
Agenda
The Environmental Working Group helped established the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics to advance the agendas of the:
- Radical environmental movement; and
- Certain cosmetic manufacturers that want to scare consumers away from competitors.
